A PERCUSSION FIRING MUSKET WITH DECORATIVE SOUTH AFRICAN ORNAMENT. The 111 cm tapering barrel with proof marks or manufacturers marks towards the stock and ram rod below. With percussion firing action, the side plate marked possibly 'A A FABB R IN TORINO', With single sling mounting point. The barrel and stock with additional round-headed nail and woven brass wire decoration suggesting adaptation by South African Tribal people. 150 cm. "This smooth bore musket appears to have been in the ownership of a South African tribal people; the brass wire platting forming a large and decorative 'capucines' and the use of brass upholstery studs, as seen on the shafts of knobkerries, would possibly point to the Zulu tribal area. The style is mid 19th century European military issue.".
Burn damage to one side, scuffing and marking in various places. Collection number to barrel.
