A MATCHLOCK MUSKET, TORADAR INDIA. The 125 cm tapering barrel with deep brown patination, approximately 17 mm at the muzzle, with ram rod below. The Matchlock firing action with decorative brass plates to either side. The barrel held to the stock with ten decorative brass 'capucines'. North central India, 171 cm. "The match used in the Indian gun is made from the coarse bark of the Koombhe tree, usually impregnated with a combustible materlial like saltpetre to produce a slow burning reasonably thin pliable match wound around the stock and fixed to the simple firing mechanism. When the trigger is pressed the burning match is lowered onto the flash pan igniting the charge firing the gun".
Some scuffing and marking, generally good condition. Collection mark to barrel.
