AN OMANI INLAID WOOD COFFEE BEAN COOLER DATED 1275 AH

This Omani coffee beans cooler is fashioned in the form of a miniature bellows and is dated 1275 AH and bearing owner name Mulla Mohammed, corresponding to approximately 1858-1859 AD. The piece is carved from dark-stained hardwood and features extensive bone inlay in the form of small circlets. The front face is designed with a central recessed basin and a carved openwork scrollwork support set with two glass cabochons, one emerald green and one deep red. The reverse side contains a circular inset glass mirror framed by concentric rings of bone inlay. Near the spout, an incised rectangular frame displays two lines of Arabic script and numerals. The numerals read 1275, and the script below begins with the word Amal, signifying the work of a specific maker. The narrow end of the bellows terminates in a small spout.
