A KASHMIRI OCTAGONAL PIERCED GILDED COPPER AND BLUE ENAMEL TRAY, INDIA, 19TH CENTURY
An octagonal gilded copper tray featuring a decorative program in the Kashmiri Indo-Persian style. The wide outer rim is decorated with intricate pierced openwork depicting scrolling foliate and floral motifs. The interior of the tray consists of nested octagonal borders surrounding a central octagonal medallion. These interior sections are decorated with dense, repeating foliate scrollwork and small flowers. The recessed areas are filled with a cobalt blue enamel or lacquer, creating a champleve effect. The reverse of the tray shows the pierced work of the rim and a solid central section with a small circular indentation in the center.
