(Early Penzance Theatre) C.[harles] Fisher, Printer Scarce Theatre Bill, 1794 'By Permission of the Magistrates At the Theatre, Penzance; 2 June, 1794. On Monday Evening,.....Wild Oats, Or The Strolling Gentlemen....,' p.1 theatre bill to recto only, 36cm x 23cm (widest point), somewhat crumpled, centre fold, ink rubbed of to date at head, small stain just below centre, no tears, consideriding age and scarcity, in a good condition, C. Fisher; Printer, Penzance [1794]. A rare, ephemeral survivor of Georgian theatre in Penzance. The theatre in question is believed to be Penzance's Georgian Theatre on Chapel Street, built in 1787. Located behind the Union Hotel and above its stables, it would have been a raucous venue. Tickets were sold at the printers and at the Head Inn.
