A CRIMEA AND CHINA PAIR TO HMS VULCAN AND HMS IMPERIEUSE. A pair comprising Crimea War Medal 1854-56, without clasp and unnamed as issued. With a Second China War Medal 1856-60 without clasp named to J.S. Smith Master R.N. H.M.S. Imperieuse. John Sidney Smith was born in Ramsgate in 1817, he passed as Master on the 22nd April 1846 serving in that role in H.M.S. Spiteful from 14th July 1854 until 14 March 1855 and H.M.S. Vulcan until 27th September 1856 for which service he was entitled to the Crimea Medal without clasp. Master aboard H.M.S. Imperieuse from the 28th June 1859 until the 3rd February 1861, He died on the 10th April 1886. With copied record and roll extracts. Provenance: the first Noonans July 2017.
These appear to have been acquired separately. The first previously brooch mounted with light marking to obverse and scratching to monarchs neck. Suspension refitted. This medal was offered as a single meal in 2017 incorrectly mounted with Taku Forts and pekin clasps.
