A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN PEACH TREE BRUSH POT BITONG, WANG BU MARK. -
This Chinese blue and white porcelain brush pot is attributed to the artist Wang Bu (1898-1968). Of cylindrical form with a flat base and a slightly recessed centre, the vessel dates to the 20th century, Republic period or later. The exterior is decorated in underglaze blue with a gnarled, fruiting peach tree. The painting employs the shui fen (watery ink-wash) technique, featuring a range of cobalt tones from deep blue to pale washes to create a painterly effect. The fruit, foliage, and textured bark are rendered with fluid brushstrokes and fine stippling. The interior and base are covered in a smooth white glaze. To the side of the decoration is a small underglaze blue square seal mark reading Wang Bu (çŽâ¹ÄÂÄ). The base is marked with a larger four-character seal mark in underglaze blue reading Yuan Wen Wu Guo (éËÄžĺľéŽ), which translates as Wishing to hear of my own faults, a known studio mark of the artist.
