A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN WASHER, WANG BU MARK. -
A cylindrical porcelain brush pot of bitong form with a flat, recessed base. The exterior is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a continuous landscape scene depicting birds in flight amongst swaying reeds and marsh grasses. The decoration is executed in an expressive ink-wash style, characterised by varied tonal gradations and soft edges that mimic traditional Chinese brush painting. The vessel is covered in a smooth, slightly blue-tinted white glaze. A small square seal mark containing the characters for Wang Bu is located on the side within the decoration. The recessed base features a four-character seal script mark in underglaze blue, transcribing as Wang Bu Zhi.
