A SILVER AND NIELLO MOUNTED KINDJAL DAGGER WITH SCABBARD, OTTOMAN CAUCASIAN, 19TH CENTURY

A Caucasian kindjal, also known as a kama, featuring a straight, double-edged steel blade that tapers to a needle point. The blade exhibits a surface pattern consistent with pattern-welded construction. The waisted I-shaped hilt is constructed with a dark wood grip and silver mounts. The silver bolster and pommel are decorated with filigree work, granulated borders, and raised hemispherical studs. A central silver band on the hilt features a repeating geometric pattern. The accompanying scabbard is fully encased in silver and decorated with alternating bands of filigree, granulation, and engraved geometric motifs. The lower portion of the scabbard displays two panels of niello inlay depicting stylized scrolling foliate designs. The scabbard is fitted with two swivel suspension rings and terminates in a ribbed, conical chape finial.
