This Indian miniature painting, executed in gouache on paper, depicts a narrative scene from a Janamsakhi (biographical account) of Guru Nanak. The central figure of a young Guru Nanak is shown with a golden halo, seated on a decorative blue carpet within an architectural courtyard. He is surrounded by several men and women in traditional South Asian attire, including turbans and colourful robes, set against a background of white buildings and a streaked sunset sky. An inscription in Gurmukhi script is visible in the centre-right, which identifies the central figure as Sri Guru Nanak Ji at age six.
