§ Walter LANGLEY (1852-1922) Conveyancing documents of his studio in Newlyn, dated 1888 Five 19th century conveyances and a lease, copperplate handwritten script on vellum, relating to the artist's studio-cottage in the Fradgan (off Street-an-Nowen) Newlyn - one signed by Walter Langley. The property is now known as 'the Moorings.' Although Langley had spent the earlier part of the 1880s in Newlyn, he returned to his native Birmingham in 1886. However, he came back to Newlyn in the spring of 1887, prompted by a need to be near his subject matter. The family home was in Penzance (according to these deeds, he was living at Holbein House in Penzance (still a B&B in Alexandra Road) but a studio in Newlyn was essential for his work. According to Walter Langley's grandson, Roger Langley, in his excellent biography of his grandfather 'Pioneer of the Newlyn Art Colony' 'This cottage-studio was the only property he ever owned.' see p.82.
