Good French double bass by Xavier Jacquet circa 1880, stamped no. 546 below the button, the jointed back of plainish wood with similar wood to the sides and head, the table of a wavy medium width grain widening to the flanks and the varnish of a light reddish-brown colour on a golden ground, back length 44 1/2" (113cm), stop length 24 1/2" (62.20cm)
