A SAFAVID OPENWORK COPPER QALAMDAN PEN BOX WITH QURââ¬â¢ANIC INSCRIPTIONS, 17TH CENTURY. -
An elongated Safavid copper pen box, finely worked in openwork with interlacing arabesques and dense floral scrolls. The hinged domed lid is pierced with a geometric floral lattice design, while the sides bear meticulously engraved and pierced Qurââ¬â¢anic inscriptions in elegant naskh script. The front is fitted with two floral-shaped clasps, each detailed with pierced arabesque work. The interior reveals compartments for writing instruments, with a fitted tray and three domed inkwell covers decorated with engraved vegetal motifs.
