REICH, Wilhelm. 'International Journal of Sex-Economy and Orgone-Research,' Volume I, Number I, March 1942 Edited by Theodore P. Wolfe, thin card wraps detaching from text block, some light spotting throughout, pp.288, illustrations, Orgone Institute Press, New york, 1942. Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957) was an Austrian-American psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and social theorist. He is best known for his controversial concept of "orgone energy" and his pioneering work in the field of psychoanalysis and sexology. Reich's early work focused on psychoanalysis, and he made significant contributions to the understanding of character analysis and the role of sexual energy in psychological development. In the 1930s, Reich began developing his theory of orgone energy, which he believed to be a universal life force that permeated all living organisms and the entire universe. According to Reich, this energy was the primary driving force behind human emotions, sexuality, and overall health. He argued that a healthy individual had a free and unobstructed flow of orgone energy, while physical and psychological illnesses were caused by blockages and stagnation of this energy. To harness and utilize orgone energy, Reich developed various devices such as the orgone accumulator, a box-like structure made of layers of organic and inorganic materials that supposedly accumulated and concentrated orgone energy. He claimed that sitting inside the accumulator could have therapeutic effects on physical and mental well-being. However, his claims were highly controversial and criticized by many in the scientific and medical communities. Despite controversy surrounding his theories and the suppression of his work, Reich's ideas continued to influence various movements, including the sexual revolution, alternative medicine, and New Age spirituality (please listen to Hawkwind's 'Orgone Accumulator') While Reich's concept of orgone energy and his orgone devices remain highly controversial and lack scientific support, his contributions to psychoanalysis and his emphasis on the connection between sexuality and psychological well-being have had a lasting impact on the field of psychology. A scarce work in g to vg condition, of an influential theorem.
