** PREVIOUSLY UNRECORDED "WESTWARD HO" SQUARED CIRCLE ON DLR 2d ON PIECE; 5 Dec. 1887 usage of the De La Rue 2d on a small piece with a lovely complete strike of an UNRECORDED "WESTWARD HO/S.A" Squared Circle. The only example of this mark that we have seen; an Important addition to the record. Arguably one of the rarest and most attractive Squared Circle. [This Gold Mine town P.O. was only open from 1887 to 1890!] Ex Sherwood and sold for £550 in our June 2011 sale.
