A PERSIAN SWORD WITH SCABBARD, 18TH - 19TH CENTURY

The hilt is a pistol-grip or L-shaped design with grip scales composed of dark horn secured to the tang by two metal rivets. The cross-guard is constructed of silvered metal with straight quillons terminating in acorn-shaped finials and central langets. The scabbard consists of a wood core covered in dark, textured leather or shagreen with raised wire decoration. It is fitted with a silvered metal locket and a long chape, both featuring relief-molded floral and geometric motifs. Two suspension bands with rings are present for mounting.
