A PERSIAN RELIEF-MOLDED CERAMIC FOOTED BOWL, PROBABLY SELJUK, 12TH-13TH CENTURY
This relief-molded ceramic footed bowl is attributed to the Seljuk period of Persia, dating approximately to the 12th or 13th century. The vessel is constructed from earthenware or fritware and features a deep, rounded body with slightly flared sides, supported by a short, tapered pedestal foot. The exterior is decorated with a prominent horizontal band of relief-molded ornamentation situated just below the rim. This decorative frieze contains motifs that resemble Kufic script, often referred to as pseudo-calligraphy, interspersed with small circular elements. Traces of a pale, yellowish-green glaze remain visible within the recesses of the molded design and in patches across the surface.
