† Charles I (1625-49), silver Halfcrown, Chester Mint, Lord Byron's emergency issue 31st January 1645 to 3rd February 1646, armoured King on horseback left, with upright sword and flowing sash, plumes in field, CHST below hooves, beaded borders with abbreviated Latin legend surrounding, initial mark three gerbs both sides, CAROLVS D: G: MAG: BRI: FRA: ET HIR: REX, rev. oval quartered shield of arms, beaded borders with abbreviated Latin legend surrounding, :CHRISTO. AVSPICE. REGNO., 11.71g (Bull 575 (47-2); Brooker 1111; Lyall B-2; N.2627; S.3130). Struck on a misshapen flan with flaws and wear, the identifying elements of mint mark and CHST clear, fair to fine and very rare.
