Jo (John) Halifax of Barnsley; A mid-18th-century 8-day, oak longcase clock, the square brass, two-piece "Roman" dial with secondary and calendar apertures, the applied silver chapter ring bearing the maker's name and engraved with wheat and shell motifs, the trunk with a mahogany crossbanded door flanked by split fluted columns, over simple plinth and shaped bracket feet, associated slightly later case, 47 cm overall width x 24 cm overall depth x 199 cm overall height. John Halifax is recorded on page 337 of Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World (CTCE) The Halifax dynasty of Yorkshire clockmakers is documented in Clockmakers of Northern England, Loomes Brian. No key for the trunk present, and it is locked closed.
