A CHARLES II PLAIN FLAT-LID TANKARD, CIRCA 1680. The lid with front denticulations, rams' horn thumbpiece, broken swan-neck handle with shield terminal below the three-part hinge and similar shaped terminal, multi-reeded footrim, touchmark inside base of unidentified maker's mark of 'T?', height 18cm

Provenance: Former Dr A. J. Young and Price Glover Collections.

Flat-lid tankards with similar elaborate shields to both the upper and lower handle are recorded by the maker Thomas Clarke, (fl.1671-17150, (PS1700), although this Lot does not appear to bear the mark struck by Clarke.
