A RARE AND UNIQUE GREEN-GLAZED UMAYYAD MOLDED CERAMIC WRITING TOOL , MESOPOTAMIA, 7TH-8TH CENTURY

features a double-compartment interior consisting of one circular well and one elongated rectangular well, designed to hold ink and pens. The exterior surfaces are decorated with moulded relief panels featuring a repeating geometric motif of an X within a square frame, further accented by raised dots in the triangular interstices. A thick, vibrant green lead glaze has been dip-applied to the piece, pooling in the recessed areas of the molded decoration.
