A MAMLUK VENETO-SARACENIC ENGRAVED COPPER BOWL, 15TH - 16TH CENTURY

Of rounded form with a fitted flat cover, this fine bowl is worked in engraved copper with intricate arabesques and geometric medallions filled with scrolling vegetal motifs. The exterior is divided into repeated roundels and cartouches, each filled with dense interlace patterns framed by flowing arabesques. The lid is decorated en suite, with concentric bands of floral scrolls radiating from a central medallion. The interior retains traces of tinning.
