THE BALANCE OF THE CAPTAIN GILLESPIE CORRESPONDENCE - MAIL EX INDIA TO G.B.; 25 Feb. 1840 - 19 Nov. 1841 ELs (all with minor wrinkling/tears - some of latter closed neatly) all to his wife in GB from Gillespie after his return to Bombay and re-deployment to Poonamalee; one posted on arrival in London (ex Bombay Feb. 1840), two without postal marks (Mar. 1840; ex Bombay & Kirkee), and 3 with red oval Bombay "INDIA" marks charged 1/- ("Via Falmouth"; June 1840), "2/8" ("Per Steamer Victoria" ex "Bangalore", Dec. 1840, with v. fine boxed "FORWARDED/BY/REMINGTON & Co.") or "3/6" (Via Marseilles with fine red boxed "POONAMALEE/Paid" d.s.; Nov. 1841). All with good long contents (fully typed transcripts) ref. ongoing political developments, his hopes for a Medal from the King of Cabul, promotion promised by Keane, avoiding high postal charges, travel, etc. Good lot.
