A Qajar Brass Pierced and Engraved Lidded Qur'an Holder with Calligraphic Panels.
The box is of rectangular form, raised on a shaped base with scalloped apron, and fitted with a hinged lid. The entire surface is richly decorated in engraved and pierced brass, displaying dense floral arabesques and finely worked geometric borders.
The domed lid features an openwork panel of interlacing Arabic calligraphy, framed by further intricate scrollwork, with a rectangular raised section above filled with tightly arranged vegetal motifs. The sides are adorned with a series of circular medallions, each containing finely pierced calligraphic inscriptions set within rope-twist borders.
