Rare Victorian Military Memorial Print – Funeral of Sergeant Monger, Dover Volunteer Artillery, 1860 Scarce Victorian-period military memorial engraving depicting the funeral cortege of Sergeant Monger of the Dover Volunteer Artillery, killed alongside Lieutenant G. Thomson following the bursting of a gun during target practice at Arch Cliff Fort, Dover, on 9th August 1860. The detailed panoramic scene shows the full military procession with artillery escort, volunteer corps, mourners and spectators, capturing an exceptional piece of mid-Victorian military and social history. The print carries a dedication to the officers and men of the Cinque Ports Volunteer Corps and related units who assisted during the funeral procession. Housed in what appears to be its original period oak frame with old backing intact, giving the piece strong untouched authenticity and display appeal. A rare and atmospheric item relating to Kent military history, Victorian volunteer regiments and British artillery heritage. Condition consistent with age, including foxing and age wear as shown.
