AN IZNIK-STYLE POLYCHROME FRITWARE POTTERY TILE WITH FLORAL AND SAZ LEAF DECORATION, TURKEY, 19TH CENTURY
An Iznik-style ceramic tile featuring underglaze polychrome decoration on a white fritware body. The composition is dominated by a large, serrated saz leaf in red and turquoise with black outlines. The decoration includes composite floral motifs, stylized blossoms in cobalt blue and red, and sprays of small white flowers against a turquoise field. The palette utilizes cobalt blue, turquoise, and a thick, slightly raised Armenian bole red. The tile is housed in a modern, dark-stained stepped wooden frame. The reverse of the tile shows a rough, unglazed surface with remnants of old mortar. No historical maker marks, signatures, or inscriptions are visible on the ceramic body. The reverse of the frame features two modern adhesive inventory labels. One circular white sticker reads Capital Antique Services with the handwritten digits 169517. A second rectangular white sticker features the handwritten code 169517 - L 27.
