Máire Flanagan was born in County Mayo and has lived in Dublin for most of her life. She developed an interest in art during her school years and was awarded a scholarship to the National College of Art & Design. She graduated with a B.A. (Hons) Degree from University College Galway and a Froebel Diploma from Sion Hill, Blackrock. Flanagan frequently returns to her native County Mayo, and this wild, rugged landscape features prominently in many of her paintings. Her watercolours are held in collections worldwide, including Canada, the United States, Australia, Europe, Africa, and Japan
