A PERSIAN SELJUK BONZE EWER, 12TH - 13TH CENTURY

The ewer is constructed with a tapered neck and a spout designed in the form of a bird head, fitted with a small hinged lid. A high curved handle with a decorative finial connects the shoulder to the spout assembly. The exterior is heavily decorated with hand-engraved horizontal bands containing Arabic calligraphic script and geometric patterns. Interspersed among the bands are circular medallions depicting stylized figures and heraldic symbols.
