Anthony Buxton: 'Fisherman Naturalist', Collins, 1947, 2nd impression, copy of David Armitage Bannerman (1886-1979), British Ornithologist, with two Autograph Letters Signed from the author Anthony Buxton to Bannerman loosely inserted, first letter, [1]pp, on Horsey Hall, Great Yarmouth headed paper, the other [1½]pp, on Brook House, Ardingly, Sussex headed paper, content of both letters re Purple Gallinule bird plumage and an account of a Purple Gallinule at Horsey (p.1162/163 in 'Fisherman Naturalist'), some other associated items loosely inserted, original cloth gilt, dust wrapper, bookplate of David Bannerman on front pastedown; together with J. Wentworth Day, 3 titles, including 'Harvest Adventure', L, Harrap, 1946, 1st edition, signed by the author to lower margin of frontispiece and further inscribed by him on title page, orig. cloth gilt, plus 2 others J. Wentworth Day. From the collection of Andrew Pierssené (1929-2025), author, Professor of Environmental Interpretation, and life-long naturalist and book collector. Born in Rugby, and following his graduation from Oxford in 1953 with a Masters degree in English Language and Literature, Andrew was involved in youth work in London, founding the OK club, a charity which is still running. After moving to Norwich in 1964, he became Chairman for the Council for Nature Youth Committee, as well as founding Norfolk Young Naturalists. Throughout his life Andrew amassed an extensive collection of Ornithology and Natural History books, and had a particular skill for acquiring and identifying signed and association copies of various works. He authored the 1998 book ‘Explaining Our World: An Approach to the Art of Environmental Interpretation’, and with his vast knowledge contributed articles for a variety of wildlife, local history and natural history magazines and publications.
