A Chinese ruby ground water pot, 19th century, of compressed ovoid form, white glazed base, 8cm diameter, damaged wood cover and stand

Provenance - A. E. Bateman; thence by family descent.
Bateman was the representative for the prominent British merchant firm Dodwell & Co. in Kyobashi in the 1920s. The firm operated in Shanghai and Yokohama from the late 19th to mid 20th century, acting as a major import/export and shipping agent.
