AN INDO-PERSIAN ENAMELLED METAL AFTABA AND CHILAMCHI SET -
A matching two-piece set comprising a traditional ewer (aftaba) and a deep, two-part basin (chilamchi) with a perforated cover. The set is constructed from metal, likely copper or brass, and is decorated throughout with polychrome enamelled lacquer. The decoration features a repeated pattern of alternating vertical panels: one set with a teal-green ground and an incised cross-hatched or fish-scale texture, the other set with scrolling foliate and floral sprays in shades of orange and dark green against a dark background. The ewer is of bulbous form rising to a slender, tapering neck with a central knop and a hinged lid topped with a pointed finial. It is fitted with a long, curved spout and a matching handle. The basin consists of a wide, flaring upper rim and a deep, bulbous base, which houses a removable perforated cover used for drainage during hand washing.
H: Approximately 20.5cm (Basin)
H: Approximately 37cm (Ewer)
