A personal narrative of a time when the author and his wife were in India from 1885 to He was a Civil Servant in the Punjab, the Native States of Rajputana, Hyderabad, and Central India, and on the North-West Frontier. O’Dwyer became the Governor of the Punjab during the time of the Amritsar Massacre, and gave his backing to the actions of General Dyer who shot civilians at Amritsar in 1919. As a consequence O’Dwyer was assassinated in London by Udham Singh, a Sikh survivor of the Amritsar Massacre in 1940.
