PORTRAIT MINIATURE IN A GOLD FRAME, LATE 18TH / EARLY 19TH CENTURY

More Information

Oval portrait miniature depicting a female sitter shown bust-length wearing a ruffled white bodice with delicate lace detail and a ribbon or sash. The sitter is rendered with fine, detailed brushwork and sits against a plain ground, framed in unmarked gold. The quality of the costume and execution suggest genteel status; the plain gold frame, although unmarked, carries intrinsic material value in addition to its historical interest.

Provenance: Château de Chalain.
