A ROMAN GOLD AND CARNELIAN INTAGLIO SIGNET RING, CIRCA 2ND CENTURY AD. -
An Ancient Roman signet ring, attributed to circa 2nd century AD. The piece is crafted from high carat yellow gold, featuring a hand-wrought band with an irregular, textured finish. The band broadens at the shoulders to meet an oval bezel. The ring is set with an oval carnelian intaglio depicting a quadruped animal in profile, likely a horse or stag. The stone is held in a simple rub-over bezel setting. The metalwork exhibits a characteristic pitted and hand-formed appearance consistent with ancient jewellery.
