Daum is one of France’s most celebrated art glass makers, founded in 1878 in Nancy by Jean Daum, a lawyer who acquired a small glassworks. His sons, Auguste and Antonin Daum, transformed the company into a leader of the Art Nouveau movement.
Key Moments in Daum’s History
1. Early Years (1878–1890s)
Initially produced mostly utilitarian glassware.
By the late 1880s, the Daum brothers began experimenting with artistic glass inspired by the natural world.
Their workshop attracted talented artists and became a creative hub in Nancy.
2. Art Nouveau Golden Age (1890–1914)
Daum became a central force in the École de Nancy, a major Art Nouveau collective.
