A SILVER HAMMAM BOWL, OTTOMAN TURKEY, 18TH CENTURY
This Ottoman Turkish silver hammam bowl features elaborate hand-worked repousse and chased ornamentation. The shallow, circular basin is constructed with a slightly flared rim and a rounded base. The exterior walls are decorated with a repeating pattern of blind arches, each containing a three-petaled floral spray emerging from a foliate base. The interior is divided into twelve radiating lobed sections, each filled with a vertical leaf-and-bud scroll. A central circular medallion depicts a flower head surrounded by acanthus-like leaves on a finely stippled ground. The decoration is worked from both sides, with the high-relief interior patterns corresponding to the recesses on the exterior base.
