A Safavid Openwork Copper Qalamdan Pen Box with Qur’anic Inscriptions, 17th Century.
An elongated Safavid copper pen box, finely worked in openwork with interlacing arabesques and dense floral scrolls. The hinged domed lid is pierced with a geometric floral lattice design, while the sides bear meticulously engraved and pierced Qur’anic inscriptions in elegant naskh script. The front is fitted with two floral-shaped clasps, each detailed with pierced arabesque work. The interior reveals compartments for writing instruments, with a fitted tray and three domed inkwell covers decorated with engraved vegetal motifs.
