A TAKOUBA SWORD OF THE TUAREG PEOPLE. The 80.5 cm straight tapering blade with chiselled end, with three partial fullers and occasional decorative markings. On a leather covered cross piece and grip and an oval pommel. In a decorated leather scabbard and belt. 94.5 cm. The Tuareg are a fair-skinned Berber people found in the southern Magrib and north-central Sudan; a traditional war-like people whose trade mark was raiding and slaving. The social class structure consists of the warrior class ‘Ihaggaren’ next was the traders ‘Imrad’ and the slaves and menial workers the Iklan. The blades are unusual in form tapering towards the point and then slightly widening and ending in a chisel edge".
