An Indian Pichwai Painting Depicting the Sacred Cow and Calf, 19th-20th Century.

A devotional Indian painting depicting a sacred white cow and calf set against a deep indigo ground scattered with star-like white dots. The cow is shown in profile, richly adorned with gold ornaments, a decorative collar, and a plume of peacock feathers rising from the headpiece. The calf walks closely beneath, reinforcing the tender and symbolic relationship between the two figures.

The lower register is decorated with a rhythmic row of large pink lotus blossoms and buds, their soft tones contrasting against the dark night-sky background. A red border frames the composition, enhancing the visual strength and balance of the design.

Executed in opaque pigments on cloth, the painting reflects the traditional Pichwai aesthetic associated with devotional imagery from Rajasthan. The stylised rendering of the animals, combined with symbolic elements such as the lotus and peacock feather, creates a serene and spiritually evocative composition.
