In early vellum binding with spine relaid, new endpapers. One leaf in fourth part (pp. 33/34) supplied in facsimile. Some browning largely to index leaves. A rare work which deals with sundials and their mathematics and construction, numerous engravings of sundials. One of the earliest works in which there is a decided emphasis on the decorative value of the sundial with the fourth part explaining their construction in unusual shapes including a vase, an egg, a harp and an angel. Presented in a clamshell box, with three of the volvelles copied, cut out and mounted on vellum [NB the original volvelle illustrations are still intact in the book - these are additional facsimiles].
