19th C. Baluchi Brass & Hide Shield, Baluchistan Islamic Eastern. Indian
A 19th-century Baluchi brass and hide shield from Baluchistan, formed in a convex circular shape with a diameter of approximately 27–28 cm. The exterior surface is finished in black lacquer and enriched with four prominent protruding bosses, each encircled by finely worked floral collars.
The shield is further ornamented with rounded brass studs and decorative rectangular and crescent-shaped plaques, all embellished with a distinctive circular beaded motif. Combining functional design with intricate metalwork, this shield reflects the martial traditions and decorative artistry characteristic of Baluchi craftsmanship of the period.
