An 1850 cut glass and etched tumbler, commemorating the opening of the Tweed to Tweedmouth Bridge in 1850, designed by Robert Stevenson. Six tumblers were made, this one was presented to John Blackstock the contractor who built the bridge on the Newcastle and Berwick Line, the bridge sometimes referred as The Tweed Viaduct as it has 28 semi circular arches each spanning 19m in a gentle curve (see illustration).
The rim of the glass is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks. However the foot of the glass has three noticeable chips, the largest of which is +/- 2-3 mm wide.
