BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR AND NAVAL INTEREST: A SMALL COLLECTION OF TREEN including a wooden candlestick made from the teak taken from HMS Spartiate, with inscribed brass plaque, 8.5cm high; a treen ashtray, affixed with a brass plaque inscribed 'From the Teak of H.M.S. Warspite', 7.5cm wide; and a miniature treen barrel, with copper plaque inscribed 'From the Decking of the Mauretania. The Old Lady of the Atlantic', 5.5cm high (3) Provenance: The candlestick was purchased from an online dealer, 17th February 2018. Both the ashtray and barrel were purchased form The Hayhurst Collection in 2016.
Note: HMS Spartiate was broken up in 1857, this date is commensurate with the age of the candlestick. Warspite was a Queen Elizabeth Class battleship launched in 1915 that served in both World Wars. She was broken up after running aground under tow off Cornwall in 1947. RMS Mauretania was launched in 1906 for the Cunard line, she was then the worlds largest ship. She was scrapped from 1935 onwards.
