AN INDIA AND SOUTH AFRICA PAIR TO THE DORSET REGIMENT. An India Medal 1896 with Punjab Frontier and Tirah 1897-98 claps named to 3108 Pte C. Brown 1st Bn Dorset Regt. A Queen's South Africa Medal with Tugela Heights and Relief of Ladysmith clasps named to 3108 Pte C.W. Brown 2/ Dorset Regt. Charles William Brown from Aldershot attested for the Dorchester Regiment on the 14th October 1890 at the age of 18. Having previously served 3 years with the Dorset Regiment. His record of service is given as: Home 14.10.90 - 26.1.93, Egypt 27.1.93 - 26.9.93, India 27.9.92 - 16.2.98, Home 17.2.98 - 23.11.99, South Africa 24.11.99 - 27.8.1900 and Home 28.8.1900 - 13.10.1902. He was appointed bandsman on the 1st of January 1895. He appears to have rejoined in on the 19th February 1898. His Father and Mother are recorded as George and Mary Brown of 36 Grove Buildings Dorchester, although he does not appear to be recorded on the census at this address alongside his brother Edward who is.
