her right knee raised, holding a flywhisk, her left arm holding a young boy with a lotus leaf, wearing a long bead necklace, with a high cowl covering her hair tied in a raised bun, with green skirt, yellow jacket and aubergine cowl and raised girdle, the unglazed flat base with muslin marking from the firing  with a copy of the Marchant exhibition catalogue

PROVENANCE: From an important French private collection formed between 1924 and 1941. Purchased from Leon Wannieck, 1 Rue George, Paris, 13th March 1926, also with Pierre Saqué label.

EXHIBITION: Included by Marchant in their 2023 exhibition of Kangxi Biscuit and Pottery: A Private French Collection, no. 32, pp. 74/5.

NOTE: A similar model without the necklace from the collection of the late Hon. Mrs. Nellie Ionides was sold by Sotheby’s London in their auction of Fine Chinese Works of Art and Export Porcelain, 24th February 1976, lot 214, pp. 94/5; another is illustrated by Anette Loesch, Ulrich Pietsch & Friedrich Reichel in Porzellansammlung im Dresden Zwinger, pp. 58/9. A famille verte biscuit Guanyin with her legs crossed under her robes is illustrated by Wang Qingzheng in Kangxi Porcelain Wares from the Shanghai Museum Collection, 151, pp. 232/3.
