A NAVAL GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL 1793-1840 WITH SYRIA CLASP TO HMS CYCLOPS. A Naval General Service Medal with Syria clasp named to James Pinhorn, Purser. James Pinhorn retired with the rank of Paymaster in Chief following a successful career in the Royal Navy. He initially served as Secretaries Clerk aboard HMS Queen Charlotte. From April 1824 he transferred to HMS Victory. Promotion to Secretary followed and a posting on HMS Britannia and other ships. Paymaster aboard HMS Rover from 18338- and aboard HMS Cyclops at the Syria action for which he received this award. HMS Cyclops was a 1st Class steam frigate launched in 1839. He died on the 31st October 1864 having served as Secretary for a number of Admirals including Sir Thomas Foley, Sir Edward Durnford king and Thomas. With copied research, this medal is recorded as being with Glendinings in November 1927.
Slight denting to clasp, an attractive example.
