R.M.S "Labrador". 1899 (Feb 16) Cover from St. Johns, Newfoundland, the stamp washed off with a Newfoundland 2c stamp from another cover reapplied by the Post Office, handstamped violet "RECOVERED FROM WRECK / OF S.S "LABRADOR"" with a Liverpool c.d.s (Mar 15) below. The lower edge repaired with stamp edging, reverse with an Officially Sealed label (March 16 Birmingham c.d.s) and endorsed "Received open at P.O B'Ham 16.3.93", flap missing. A scarce cachet, used on covers from the one mailbag dealt with at Liverpool. Photo on Page 24.
