AL-HAJJAJ IBN YUSUF ARAB-SASSANIAN SILVER DIRHAM, CIRCA 79ââ¬â80 AH (698ââ¬â700 AD). -
A silver dirham of the Arab-Sassanian series struck under the governorship of Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, dated to 79ââ¬â80 Hijri. The obverse features a stylised crowned bust facing right, enclosed within a beaded border, retaining strong Sassanian stylistic influence with clear facial detailing and headdress elements. The reverse displays a central fire altar flanked by two attendants, framed within concentric circular borders. Surrounding inscriptions in Pahlavi and early Arabic script are visible along the margins, reflecting the transitional nature of early Islamic coinage.
