A CHINESE CELADON-GLAZED STONEWARE TRIPOD CENSER. -
The vessel is expertly modelled after the archaic bronze li form, featuring a compressed globular body divided into three distinct lobes. Each lobe is accented with a raised vertical rib that extends from the shoulder down to the tapering conical feet. The short neck rises to a wide, flat, everted rim with a subtly upturned lip. The censer is covered in a thick, unctuous, pale bluish-green glaze of Longquan type, which is suffused with a network of ice-crackle patterns in varying tones of charcoal and amber. This aesthetic seeks to replicate the prestigious official Guan and Ge wares of the Southern Song court. The glaze stops cleanly just above the tips of the feet, revealing the characteristic dark-brown, iron-coloured stoneware body.
