A Chinese Carved Stone Guardian Lion (Foo Dog), Tang or Song Dynasty -

A dark, patinated sculpture depicting a stylized, seated guardian lion, commonly referred to as a 'Foo Dog', originating from China and possibly attributed to the Tang or Song Dynasty. The robustly modeled animal features an open mouth with visible fangs, prominent eyes, and a highly stylized, swirling mane. The figure surmounts a rectangular, unadorned base.
